Can the Steelers win the Super Bowl?

The Trib’s Mark Kaboly lays out the reasons why the Steelers can win the Super Bowl this year as well as the reasons why they can’t. In the winning column he lists Ben Roethlisberger, Keith Butler and Mike Tomlin’s offseason moves as the reasons why the Steelers can win the big one this year.

As far as reasons why they cannot win Kaboly cites the secondary, their schedule and injuries. Each team has to deal with injuries each season but in some positions the Steelers aren’t set up to deal with injuries to major contributors.

Basically, the Steelers are screwed if they’d have to go without Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown or Le’Veon Bell for an extended period of time. On the other side of the ball what would they do if Cameron Heyward or Stephon Tuitt got injured? Let’s not even get started on the secondary.

Looking forward to camp

Mike Prisuta has it exactly right with this.

"“With all apologies to Christmas, this is the most wonderful time of the year.”"

Summers at Saint Vincent have been a constant for the Steelers for 50 years now and the experience is something no Steelers fan ever regrets being a part of. On top of the beautiful setting that Saint Vincent College in Latrobe offers, the experience of getting up close with your favorite Steelers players is something fans look forward to each year as their favorite part of camp.

On top of being able to snap a selfie or snag and autograph from your favorite player you can also just sit back on the hill or in the stands and enjoy the competition that is a daily occurrence at Steelers training camp.

How could you not love the Friday Night Lights practice the Steelers hold annually at Latrobe’s Memorial Stadium? The team will board school busses to travel from Saint Vincent to the stadium and hold practice under the bright lights on Friday night just like when they were all starting out in school.

There’s plenty to love about Steelers training camp and the best part is that it leads to regular season, which is truly the best time of the year.

Questions facing the Steelers

The PPG’s Ed Bouchette reminds us that there is a big difference between team building and building a team. The Steelers will be doing both in Latrobe starting next weekend and while the defense is largely unknown and uncertain the biggest question is about what new defensive coordinator Keith Butler can get out of the players, not necessarily who will configure the starting lineup.

Sure there will be younger players in place of names like Troy Polamalu, Ike Taylor and Brett Keisel but most of the starters are set for the defense going into camp. The unknown will be what they will bring to the field this season to bring the Steelers defense out of the mid to bottom ranks in sacks, yards allowed and interceptions.
