Still Curtain NFL Week 9 Picks

Whoever had Green Bay as their last undefeated team standing sure miscalculated that one. The NFL managed to get through the trade deadline this week without any blockbuster trades as usual except for the fact that Denver just got a little scarier adding tight end Vernon Davis to the mix.

Here at Still Curtain we are not only a bunch of nerds who follow the Steelers tirelessly but we are also a bunch of nerds who follow the NFL tirelessly. Therefore we put our money (or maybe just our pride) where our mouths are and make picks on every NFL game on the schedule each week.

We don’t mess around with point spreads or anything like that. Just straight up picks.

The NFL on Thursday night returns to the NFL Network now that the first half of the season is complete. This week’s edition has the undefeated Bengals hosting the Cleveland Browns. Have you seen the commercial for that one? I don’t know what’s more disturbing the judge who says she takes the Browns as serious as the law or the hot dog guy who says that Cincy chili makes hot dogs better. Gross.

New England gets a soft ball thrown at them this week when they get to face Washington at home. The undefeated Carolina Panthers will face their first team with a winning record this season when the newly de-throned Green Bay Packers come to town.

Divisional action this weekend includes the Dolphins at Bills and Philadelphia at Dallas. The Broncos will travel to Indianapolis so that Peyton Manning can receive another parade in his honor from the team that traded him away because they totally thought his neck was caput.

The Steelers will have the Oakland Raiders at home to deal with and while they’ve actually had a lot of trouble with these Raiders teams of the past perhaps the fact that this one actually has a winning record could mean the difference? The Steelers offense has to go on with DeAngelo Williams as their starting running back and hope that Ben Roethlisberger threw all the rust off with those three interceptions last week.

Dom was the runaway winner in last week’s picks with 12 winners and he took sole possession over first place overall with that victory last week as well. I’ve managed to crawl out of last place in spite of actually picking the Dolphins to upset the Patriots last week. Amazing.
