Active depth chart

More from Steelers News

Mike Prisuta explains

that Steelers quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner has had a remarkable season so far with more movement among the depth chart that the team has had in years during one season. After losing backup quarterback

Bruce Gradkowski

to a season-ending injury in the preseason the moves have been nonstop ever since.

Rather than immediately move Landry Jones up the depth chart the Steelers signed veteran quarterback Michael Vick to be the one to step in if Ben Roethlisberger got injured. Fichtner explained that Jones didn’t let that discourage him and he just kept working each week for the chance his opportunity would come.

"“I think he looked at it as, ‘I’m going to take advantage of every rep I can do.’ His preparation never changed. He was still going to get some work in practice. He was still going to get some work with the scout team. He was still preparing like he was going to be the starter.” – Randy Fichtner"

How the games played out

The Steelers entered Week 11 in the NFL as the fifth seed in the playoff hunt while on their bye week. While they were resting for the weekend Bob Labriola explained what games could affect the Steelers.

The Baltimore Ravens won in overtime over the St. Louis Rams but ended up losing quarterback Joe Flacco and running back Justin Forsett to season-ending injuries. The ramifications of which will be determined by how high the draft pick the Ravens will get as a result of their losing season.

The Steelers got a boost with the Lions beating the Oakland Raiders as well as the Houston Texans beating the New York Jets. It would benefit the Steelers if the Arizona Cardinals take down the Bengals on Sunday night and Steelers fans might be in the odd position of rooting for the Patriots to beat the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.
