Unfortunately Steelers linebacker
Ryan Shazierhas been bit by the injury bug often in his young NFL career. After not missing a game for three straight years at Ohio State Shazier has missed 11 games since the Steelers drafted him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
The Trib’s Mark Kaboly explains that there’s a good chance Shazier will play Sunday against the Colts after having passed through the NFL’s concussion protocol this week but that didn’t stop defensive coordinator Keith Butler from discussing Shazier’s injury frustrations aside from the concussion.
"“He has to play through them, and that’s part of growing up and being a veteran in the National Football League. If you are waiting to feel good before you play, you are never going to play. He’s dealing with that right now, and hopefully we can get him on the field and keep him on the field.” – Keith Butler"
Something doesn’t sound right about being supportive of helping a player through a brain injury but just expecting them to play through any other injury. Nothing about Shazier’s background suggests that he wouldn’t play through injuries but it sounds an awful lot like his coach just called him out.
The rhythm is gonna get you
Teresa Varley tells us that it has taken a while for Steelers kick returner Jacoby Jones to get into his groove with the special teams. So far he’s got four kickoff returns for 118 yards and two punt returns for 17 yards.
"“It’s just getting in that rhythm and it shows the work we did that week in practice. It’s about getting our chemistry with the guys. You get a feel for each other, how I run, how these guys like to set up blocks. Once that happens it’s all downhill from here.” – Jacoby Jones"
Unselfish
DeAngelo Williams was signed by the Steelers this offseason to back up Le’Veon Bell, a job that already has a degree of unselfishness associated with it. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler explains that Williams has taken that unselfishness to the next level with his pass blocking.

Williams’ rushing numbers have gone down for the past two games but he has still been on the field blocking for passes. That won’t get him a ton of rushing yards but it certainly does get him the appreciation of his teammates and coaches.
