Steelers season never truly ends for Steeler Nation so while the offseason starts to heat up we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Wednesday, Apr. 13th.

Recalling draft day

The NFL Draft has become a larger than life media event and one of the most important days on the NFL calendar. Teresa Varley has John Stallworth’s recollection of his draft day experience from back in 1974. The draft wasn’t anywhere near the media circus it is today, even if the picks weren’t any less important.

Stallworth was drafted in the fourth round of the 1974 NFL Draft out of Alabama A&M by the Steelers. Stallworth was part of a legendary draft for the Steelers that produced four future Hall of Famers including Stallworth. Stallworth recalls being notified by none other than Myron Cope that he had been drafted by the Steelers.

Not sure how to help

By now everyone has heard that Browns receiver Josh Gordon, who was serving a year-long suspension during the 2015 season for multiple failed drug tests has failed yet another test. The Steelers are facing an unfortunately similar situation with receiver Martavis Bryant, who will have to sit out the 2016 season.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler explains that Bryant’s teammates want to be able to help Bryant avoid the same behaviors and mistakes that led him to the point where he’s at right now but aren’t sure how to help him as he has to stay away from team activities as part of the suspension.

Players like running back DeAngelo Williams and linebacker Arthur Moats feel like Bryant would benefit from the support system the locker room offers rather than the isolation of being suspended and separate from the team.

Like an old married couple

The Pittsburgh Steelers are known for their coaching consistency. What is easily forgotten, however, is that they’ve had consistency in the general manager position as well.

Mark Kaboly of the Trib describes how Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert have become so close over their time together.

Next: Steelers Antonio Brown one of the best ever?

They’re working on their 10th NFL Draft this month and their 92 wins together only trails former Steelers general manager Dick Haley and Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll.
