The Steelers started off their OTAs last week the same way they started practices last season; with the “seven shots” drill.
Mike Prisuta sums up the first week of OTAs for us
and has
’s comments on how the team builds around starting off the sessions with the offense against the defense.
"“We knew it was going to be like that, we expected it. That’s going to be one of our biggest team-builders right there, the ‘Seven Shots.’ The competition of understanding that we are sharpening each other and getting better and it starts with ‘Seven Shots,’ that sets the tempo for practice.” – Ramon Foster"
It sure paid off last season with the amount of two-point conversions the Steelers offense connected on as well as how good the Steelers defense was in the red zone.
From alumni to coach
The Steelers have welcomed back many players over the years to intern as coaches in the summer for OTAs, minicamp and training camp and this year is no different. Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist and former Steelers offensive guard Alan Faneca will assist the offensive line coaching as an assistant this summer.

Secondary overhaul
The Trib’s Chris Adamski reminds us that the Steelers’ opponents averaged 271.9 passing yards in 2015, the third worst in the NFL. They were one of only two teams to rank so low in pass defense to qualify for the playoffs. That called for an overhaul of the cornerbacks group.
Next: Steelers feast and famine at CB
When it comes to the seven cornerbacks on the roster, only William Gay, Ross Cockrell and Doran Grant were on the roster at some point last year. When it comes to the new crop of players the Steelers have a bonus of an additional draft pick basically when Senquez Golson takes the field.
Golson missed his rookie season with a shoulder injury that landed him on IR. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin insists that the expectations of Golson are that of a second-year player even though Golson’s rookie year wasn’t on the field. He still was able to absorb the information so therefore he’s got all the pressure to perform.
