It’s the Steelers and the Eagles in a battle of the unbeaten for the state of Pennsylvania.
What has been talked about at length this week has been the hype surrounding Eales rookie quarterback Carson Wentz. In his first two games of this NFL career he’s got 468 passing yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers.
The Eagles are not turning over the ball and controlling time of possession. In the hyperbole-prone NFL world Wentz is already drawing comparisons to Ben Roethlisberger’s rookie season where he went undefeated in the regular season and let the team to the AFC Championship Game.
What is not talked about, hilariously, is that these two teams faced each other in the preseason. It seems so long ago because Sam Bradford actually played in that game for Philly. Landry Jones threw about a million interceptions in his effort and the Steelers lost 17-0.
But that was then and this is now. The Steelers have Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown ready to link up once again and Markus Wheaton looks to make his first appearance of the 2016 season. On the other side of the ball the Steelers defense is ready to go after Wentz.
The Steelers Wire dug up the stats on the Steelers defense going up against rookie quarterbacks and since 2004 the team has faced a rookie signal caller 21 times. Out of those 21 times they’ve only lost twice to a rookie.
One of those games was in 2007 in the regular season finale against the Ravens when Pittsburgh already had a playoff spot locked up and rested their starters against rookie quarterback Troy Smith.
