The Steelers head into their bye week coming off of two losses with an injury list about a mile long.

While the team recovers from their injuries and gets some much-needed rest we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Tuesday, Oct. 25th.

This again?

Mike Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the NFL. That’s a fact. That’s going by putting his record against all other active coaches right now. Tomlin also occasionally makes some dumb decisions during the games. It’s fair to criticize him for that. Criticizing him, however, doesn’t mean calling for his firing.

Radio turd Colin Cowherd decided to go on a rant about all the reasons why he thinks Tomlin is a bad coach and constantly “gets a pass” to I assume avoid criticism. Clearly Cowherd doesn’t spend any time researching his topics because Tomlin gets plenty of criticism locally.

I almost burned my eyebrows off with all of those hot takes. If they weren’t so mind-numbingly bad Cowherd might just have a show people listen to. I can’t really grasp the argument that Tomlin’s record against below .500 teams equates him to being a bad coach.

As if he actually goes out and tells the men, “Go ahead and take it easy, guys. They’re a crappy team and even though we’re known to lose to crappy teams from time to time I’m sure it’ll all turn out fine this week.”

Non-Blitzburgh

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler describes how few times Pittsburgh blitzed Tom Brady during the 27-16 loss. Clearly the idea was to try and put pressure on Brady and Tomlin himself admitted that they knowingly sacrificed giving up rushing yards in order to send the presser his way but the blitz was nonexistent.

Between the last two losses to Miami and New England the defense is blitzing on 12 percent of the drop backs compared to the rest of the games where we’re blitzing at around 20 percent of the time. The defense is missing the presence of Cameron Heyward and Bud Dupree hardcore.

Getting healthy

The team can come back a whole lot stronger and healthier from the bye week. According to Teresa Varley tackle Marcus Gilbert is one of several players chomping at the bit to get back out on the field. Which is good because Chris Hubbard is a bit of a false-start and holding machine.

Also potentially ready for a comeback from the bye week could be Cam Heyward, Ladarius Green and possibly even Ben Roethlisberger.

So in spite of what you heard on sports talk radio the morning after the Patriots loss, the season is not, in fact, already over. There’s a lot of football left to be played.
