Saturday was a long day for all teams – 4 rounds and over 6 hours of drafting players. The Steelers took the following players:
Rd 4 – CB Cortez Allen (Citadel)
Rd 5 – OLB Christopher Carter (Fresno State)
Rd 6 – OG Keith Williams (Nebraska)
Rd 7 – RB Baron Batch (Texas Tech)
With their 4th round pick, the Steelers made a rare move and went back to back with corner picks. Allen plays the run well and is a good press corner although lacks vision when sitting in off-man coverage. Carter has the potential to be a good pass rusher in the Steelers 3-4. I think he will immediately add solid depth at the outside position. Williams too will add significant depth to an offensive line that habitually gets injured over the course of the season. He has a good frame and Nebraska has a decent history of producing solid linemen. Batch is said to lack power and speed and has some hand issues. I think he is their ‘riskiest’ pick out of the seven. The Steelers must see something in this guy, and he could become a good replacement for Moore as a third down back.
So – how would you grade Day 3?
