Did I hear something about the world ending?

Only the steroid-fueled home run chase, when Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa were trying to eclipse Roger Maris’s mark of 61 home runs in a season brought people back to the ballpark, but the resentment is still there and there are plenty of people who have not watched or attended a game since the strike.

Hockey is still struggling to recover from their lockout, which eliminated the entire 2004-05 hockey season. It was the first time since 1919 that the Stanley Cup was not awarded.

Hockey is a great game. Recent rules changes have made it more about skill and creativity than in the past. It is fast paced and exciting, but the lockout sent people away. They found something else to care about.

This should be a cautionary to the NFL and the players. They are playing with fire and they could all get burned.

If they keep up with this course of action, if actual games are lost because of this labor dispute, they could have a pie that is quite a bit smaller than $9 billion the next time.

Of course, the world is going to end tomorrow anyway. I wonder if my son’s baseball game will get cancelled.
