Conclusion:

So how important was this 1991 game in terms of the Steelers vs. Bengals rivalry?  Well for starters the Steelers ended a decade of horrors against a divisional foe and began an era of dominance against them in the process.  Beginning with the November 10, 1991 win, the Steelers have proceeded to go 30-11 against the Bengals with a 31-17 playoff win after the 2005 season to boot!

The 90’s and 00’s have been decades of Front Office and Coaching wizardry by the Steelers and decades of humiliation and poor decision making by the Bengals and it is clearly evident in how both franchises are seen around the N.F.L..  Sure the Bengals have played some great games against the Steelers, and as illustrated above they have managed to win 11 games.  However, Cincinnati hasn’t sustained any sort of consistent or long-term success against Pittsburgh let alone any of the N.F.L.’s other franchises in the last 20 years to boot.

In essence the 1991 win for the Steelers in O.T. really helped to kick off an era of Steelers dominance in the rivalry.  An era of dominance that I would be hard pressed to say that still hasn’t come to a close yet.
