Former Steelers CB Woodson MIGHT Coach For Bengals
I’ll make sure I’m a little more careful when talking about potential moves of coaches and players to teams. This time, I look to Jameson Hensley of ESPN who reports that sources from the Cincinnati Enquirer say that former Steeler Rod Woodson is a potential candidate for the defensive backs coach.
Woodson has had a long standing relationship with Cincy head coach, Marvin Lewis. Woodson was playing corner for the Steelers while Lewis was the linebackers coach, Woodson moved to the Ratbirds as corner and safety while Lewis was the defensive coordinator, and he was a coaching intern while Lewis headed the Bengals.
The question on my mind that should be on everyone else’s – ‘Will Woodson have a Lake effect?’ Since former safety Lake joined the coaching staff this season, the Steelers went from being a rag tag band of corners to the #1 secondary in the league. Lake HAD to have had some doing in that. I guess we’ll really tell when the honeymoon season is over and Lake must deal with seasons two and three and so on. Coaching is different than playing, and it will be interesting to see the kind of impact Woodson has on a secondary that already ranked in the top 10 of pass defense. He coached the Raiders with limited success. How well will the Bungals react?
