Final Thoughts
As I’ve alluded to a number of times, there are few franchises in the League which can find and replenish talent quite like the Steelers. Each and every season the Front Office does a tremendous job evaluating the talent and are constantly vigilant of how and when it could leave. By the time Free Agency and the Draft roll around, they make intelligent and savvy decisions from football and economic perspectives and continue to build their team and address their needs.
Whether or not Brown, Wallace, or both will be gone by 2013 has yet to be decided though, and let’s cross our fingers that both stay in the Black & Gold for the rest of their careers. But what I am expecting however is Colbert and Co. to be on the lookout for more WR’s to add to this suddenly slim WR corps either this April or the next. There are more large, and quality candidates out there from Rounds 3-5 (Nick Toon, Dwight Jones, Marvin Jones, Greg Childs) which I did not discuss in this article, and since Pittsburgh could use a tall, field-stretching WR they might be willing to take advantage and find themselves a play-maker. You know, the kind Limas Sweed was supposed to be.
Kidding aside, the Front Office will likely be trying to hedge their bets accordingly to the future of the WR position. So don’t be shocked in the least if Pittsburgh goes after one of these guys I’ve alluded to above, or another WR in April. I’m sure Big Ben is down for another weapon, and seeing some execution in the Red Zone wouldn’t hurt as well.
