Steelers Back to the Business of Being The Steelers

Now this is an off season!  Workouts begin today at the Steelers training facility with almost everyone in attendance, they haven’t awkwardly cut a fan favorite or fired/resigned/did not renew the contract of/ a lightning rod of a coordinator in over a month.  Business is back to normal on the South Side.  The regular season is months away and the Suits in the Steelers front offices are making minor tweaks to the roster.  It is being reported this morning by Ed Bouchette’s sources that Kennan Lewis and Ryan Mundy have both signed restricted free agent offers.    Lewis, the Steelers third round pick in 2009 and Mundy, the sixth rounder from 2008 (factual information in a DBUZARD post Courtesy of NPC) are locked up for the near future.  Lewis will enter training camp competing for a starting job at the other corner due to the departure of Will, Willie, William Gay and Mundy will be looking to keep his job as the primary back up for both Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark

That’s if for getting the ink to the paper for all of the Home Team’s restricted free agents.  Ummm… Well, except for the Mike Wallace Situation (which sounds like an awesome indie band).  Mike is still “waiting” and the Steelers are still “signing” and “spending”.  Wallace is so sure the Rooney’s will do what is right by him that he is not going to show up for any off season workouts and may be a training camp holdout.  The Rooney’s are showing their loyalty to a solid player by not having much in the way of communication with either Speedy Mike or his agent.  So, there’s that.

This off season has seen the Black and Gold going as crazy as ever in the dangerous, shoot ‘em up, Mogadishu Gun Market that is free agency.  They have signed tight end and household name…….. Leonard Pope.

C. Batch will be back for another season.  He signed a contract yesterday.  Look for the future mayor of Pittsburgh to be under center for a victory or two this season.  I think the Steelers should have had a HUGE presser to celebrate Charlie’s new deal!  In news from the trenches:  Offensive linemen Trai Essex and Doug (the big) Legursky will be hanging around The ‘Burgh for the near future, having each put the pen to the paper last week (who said them big ones ain’t smart).

Speaking of ‘ain’t smart’: The NFL will be further making a spectacle of itself this evening by attempting to make releasing the individual team schedules appointment television.  I can hear the urgent tones from the production room “Ok Rich, now throw it to Deion and Marshall to see who Cleveland’s battling in week two”.  Exciting stuff for sure!
