Fantasy Football: Who’s Your Steeler(s)?

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s no secret that I really love fantasy football every season.  It’s also no secret that I can’t help but to pick a Steeler (or two) for my fantasy football squad.  It’s also pretty obvious that many on the Steelers roster aren’t of your ‘fantasy’ ilk – but then again, who needs that when a team can take home a Lombardi Trophy anyways.

So, once again, as my fantasy football draft came to an end a few days ago I found myself with with a couple of guys with PIT next to their names.  This season I selected Mike Wallace (Rd 3 pick) and Jonathan Dwyer (Rd 10 pick) as my representatives of the Steelers.  Why?  Well, even though I’ve been busting Mike Wallace all summer long during his holdout, I know that he has a lot to prove if he wants his big money contract.  The trend with players of his skill level tend to somehow ‘get really good’ in their contract year.  Wallace will be an unrestricted free agent next season, which means he could rake in a boat load of money if he can have a great year.  That’s good news for fantasy football people such as myself who tend to pick RB first, QB second then find that Megatron is gone two picks prior.  I hope he becomes sleeper on the team.

Jonathan Dwyer is a stretch, and I know it.  He’s going to be sharing time with Redman to start the season.  So he’ll at least get some points racked up early on.  He mainly be riding my bench, but if he gets hot/usurps Redman for the #1 spot then I will have him at the ready.  Arian Foster and Cedric Benson are my top two running backs for the season and will only get pulled when they have their bye weeks – that will be a perfect time to insert Dwyer… unless Mendenhall comes back and takes time away from them all.

Those are my two Steelers for my FF team.  I was moments away from picking the Steeler D, but they were taken earlier in the round, so I had to settle for Dwyer.  I wasn’t looking specifically for a Steeler at that moment, but I saw his name down the list and thought ‘What the hell, why not?!’  I hope that he will become useful later in the league.

Here’s how the rest of my FF Team shakes out:

QB – DEN Peyton Manning

RB – HOU Arian Foster

RB – GB Cedric Benson

WR – IND Reggie Wayne

WR – PIT Mike Wallace

TE – CAR Greg Olson

W/R – SF Michael Crabtree

K – DAL Dan Bailey

DEF – NYG

CB – NO Roman Harper

Bench: QB Andy Dalton, QB Blaine Gabber, RB Danny Woodhead, RB Jonathan Dwyer, WR Dexter McCluster, DB Yeremiah Bell.

How is everyone else’s FF teams shaping up?
