A pesky calf injury could keep Polamalu out this Sunday against the Jets. Credit: Kevin Hoffman-US PRESSWIRE
Troy Polamalu did not practice Wednesday or Thursday for the Steelers. The team is saying he has a lingering calf injury from Week 1. The injury list is finally beginning to shorten up after a decimating preseason filled with injuries, but Polamalu’s injury could be a big concern. I’m sure CBS tool Pete Prisco, would be tickled pink to see Polamalu absent, but what if it were to happen this Sunday?
Even though Dick LeBeau pretty much left his X Factor player a non-factor on Sunday night against the Broncos by keeping him deep most of the night, Polamalu is always the Steelers best chance of winning a football game. The Steelers are 6-7 in 2009 and 2010 when Polamalu is out. There’s just no one on the Steelers defensive roster who can replace the physicality and pursuit of Troy Polamalu.
With the potential explosiveness of the Jets offense – especially after the show they put on Sunday against the Bills – Holmes, Hill and Greene could have huge days without the presence of Polamalu wreaking havoc in the box, in the backfield, or down the field. So Nation, how concerned are you if Polamalu does not dress this Sunday against the Jets?
