2013 AFC Pro Bowl Team Announced: Pouncey and Miller Get Nod For Steelers

facebooktwitterreddit

The 2012 Pro Bowl teams were announced on Wednesday evening.  Now keep in mind that the majority of the voting came from fans of the league.  A flawed process to be certain, but there you have it.  The Steelers, despite their up and down year and eventual implosion, have two players who were selected: C Maurkice Pouncey and TE Heath Miller.

It’s ironically funny to me that two offensive players were selected even though the offense became the ultimate demise of the 2012 Steelers, and no defensive players were selected even though they were ranked near the top (#1 for most of the season) in defense.  I guess no one really stood out for fans across the country to get enough votes.

Pouncey is arguably the best center in the NFL since he entered the league two seasons ago.  Miller was having a Pro Bowl and Team MVP season and got the nod as a back up to Patriots Rob Gronkowski.  Miller, unfortunately on many levels, will not be attending this year’s Pro Bowl due to his recent devastating knee injury.  Miller and Pouncey both are former Pro Bowlers.

Notables from the Steelers who did not make it:  Ben Roethlisberger, who was having a Pro Bowl year until his injury and then two game ending interceptions; Antonio Brown, who signed a big contract and then had a big let down late in the season along with the rest of the offense with tons of bone headed plays; Troy Polamalu, who has made the Pro Bowl the last two years and five times total, was out most of the season with a calf injury (although I’m not sure if he would have been voted in again this season….. geeehhhh).
