The Steelers & 53-Man Roster Predictions: Final
Special Teams, Practice Squad, Final Thoughts
Kicker (1), Punter (1), Long Snapper (1)
Shaun Suisham, Drew Butler, Greg Warren
Suisham and Warren basically have their jobs secured, especially since the Steelers have already released both of their offseason competitors. Drew Butler has been a more effective punter than Brian Moorman during each of Pittsburgh’s first three preseason games and deserves the nod.
Practice Squad (8)
Brian Arnfelt (DE), Alameda Ta’amu (NT), Terence Garvin (ILB), Alan Baxter (OLB), Isaiah Green (CB), Justin Brown (WR), Mike Golic, Jr. (OL), Adrian Hubbard (OL)
If Arnfelt and Ta’amu are released, then I really hope that both can make it through the waiver wire so the Steelers can add them to their practice squad. With a year or two of development, both players could be solid contributors in the trenches.
Golic, Jr., Hubbard, and Baxter could stand to use a year to gain weight and develop; while Justin Brown could be a solid option for the team to turn to if they need help on special teams or at the wide receiver position. Green and Garvin should provide “break glass in case of emergency” depth at their respective positions.
Final Thoughts
Don’t worry readers, I did not forget about Sean Spence. While nothing would make me happier to see the youngster return to action this fall, I would much rather see him placed on IR for the 2013 campaign so he can rehabilitate his injured knee for another year before he can compete for a backup job and special teams duties in 2014. Due to the gruesome nature of his injury, I would rather see the coaching and medical staffs err on the side of caution regarding the former Miami Hurricane than anything else.
Anyway, I hope that you readers enjoyed this list and I cannot wait to see who makes the Steelers’ final 53-man roster.
