The Steelers trimmed their roster from 75 to 53 today when they released the following players according to Bob Labriola of the team’s website:
WR Kashif Moore
WR Justin Brown
WR/SB/KR Reggie Dunn
TE Nathan Overbay
TE Jamie McCoy
OL Joe Long
OL Joe Madsen
OL Mike Golic, Jr.
OL Chris Hubbard
RB Alvester Alexander
RB Jonathan Dwyer
DE Brian Arnfelt
NT Alameda Ta’amu
LB Alan Baxter
LB Marshall McFadden
LB Terence Garvin
LB Brian Rolle
CB Devin Smith
CB Terry Hawthorne
CB Josh Victorian
S Ross Ventrone
P Brian Moorman
As far as reactions go, I would have to believe that recent draft picks/UDFAs such as Ta’amu, Arnfelt, Hawthorne, and Brown would be added to the team’s practice squad. Moreover, I tip my cap to Drew Butler for beating out Brian Moorman and Felix Jones for sending Jonathan Dwyer out of town.
In addition, I also thought that Brian Rolle and Marshall McFadden would be able to beat out Kion Wilson, but Wilson and rookie Vince Williams both edged him out due to their special teams play. I was also surprised that the Steelers kept veteran Guy Whimper over Joe Long, but it looks like Whimper will be the team’s seventh/eighth offensive lineman this fall along with John Malecki. Credit must also go to Isaiah Green who beat out Victorian, Hawthorne, and Smith to boot.
