Earlier this morning, Pittsburgh’s starting left guard Ramon Foster tweeted the following:

I am sure that Foster and the rest of his teammates know that the “brick throwing” has been quite prevalent since the middle of the 2012 regular season.  I am also sure that Foster and the rest of his teammates would admit that their 2-8 regular season record since Week 11 of last year is unacceptable, and their collective performance has been extremely inconsistent to boot.

I for one wonder whether or not that this team filled with inexperienced youngsters and declining veterans can persevere through all of the criticism which has been hurled at them as of late.

Foster, who has been a starter on Pittsburgh’s much-maligned offensive line since 2009, is probably used to the type of criticism which has been hurled in this team’s direction as of late.  His younger teammates like Mike Adams, Marcus Gilbert, David DeCastro, and Kelvin Beachum probably are not, especially the high-round draft choices like Adams, Gilbert, and DeCastro.

While he is only 27 years old, Foster is far and away the most experienced player on Pittsburgh’s offensive line.  The former Tennessee Volunteer has started 45 games during his now five-year professional career, and his story should be an inspiration to those younger players.

Foster fought his way up from being a UDFA and the practice squad as a rookie in 2009, and eventually became a regular starter on the Steelers’ AFC Championship team back in 2010.

His versatility as a guard and a tackle has served him well during his career with the franchise, and it would be an enormous positive for Pittsburgh’s offense if a player with his experience could step up and mentor the inconsistent but talented youngsters in the trenches.

Foster seems motivated to turn things around for Pittsburgh’s final 13 regular season games, and I can only hope that the veteran’s motivation and drive can inspire some of his younger teammates to follow his lead.
