Jim Wexell of SteelCityInsider.net recently tweeted some breaking news regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers and their secondary:

I actually assumed that the Steelers’ brass would probably kick the tires on Will Allen after he was released by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week. Allen started seven games for the Steelers last fall and racked up 31 tackles, a forced fumble and three passes defensed.

Mike Tomlin has coached Allen in both Tampa Bay (2004-2005) and Pittsburgh (2010-2012), and the Steelers have seemed intent on bringing back many re-treads in recent years (Larry Foote, Antwaan Randle El, Matt Spaeth, Stevenson Sylvester, and William Gay).

Speaking of William Gay, the news that Gay is working out with the first team at right cornerback does not come as a surprise to me either when one considers how dreadful Cortez Allen looked during Pittsburgh’s last game versus Minnesota.

Whether it was missed tackles, blown assignments, or the fact that Jerome Simpson torched him and the rest of the secondary, Allen definitely did not look comfortable in his first game back from the ankle injury he sustained on opening weekend.

It would honestly not shock me at all to see Gay starting this weekend over Allen, especially with the amounts of depth chart changes which have taken place recently.
