Steelers Release Isaac Redman, Promote Kion Wilson

According to Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk, the Pittsburgh Steelers released running back Isaac Redman earlier today.
The move itself comes as no surprise to me for two important reasons. First, Redman was absolutely dreadful from a productivity standpoint when he was in the lineup this fall (10 carries and 12 yards) and was passed on the depth chart by Le’Veon Bell, Felix Jones, and Jonathan Dwyer.
In addition to Redman’s struggles on the field, his admission that he supposedly “lied” while he was being evaluated for a concussion to get back into Pittsburgh’s game against Cincinnati earlier this year probably did not endear him to those within the organization either.
With a roster spot open, Pittsburgh re-signed Kion Wilson back to provide depth at inside linebacker and help on the special teams coverage units. Although Vince Williams has all but locked up the starting “buck” linebacker spot, Pittsburgh needs all the insurance that they can get at inside linebacker with Larry Foote and Sean Spence sidelined.
I will be interested to see who the Steelers try to sign to their practice squad now that a spot is open, and I hope that they are taking another strong look at Alan Baxter to provide some depth at outside linebacker.
