I love it when the Steelers are the 1:00 game. It’s been reported that the NFL players tend to enjoy playing their games in the early spot too. I can’t stand the Thursday night games, even though I watch them every week. I don’t care for the Steelers playing on Sunday or Monday nights either. I don’t want to wait around for my football. Give it to me as early as you can on Sunday and I’m a happy girl. Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block.

Shamarko going up against his Syracuse coach

Steelers rookie safety Shamarko Thomas can provide some insight into the Buffalo Bills head coaching in today’s game. As ESPN’s Scott Brown reminds us; Thomas played all four years in Syracuse under now Bills head coach Doug Marrone. Marrone describes Thomas as one of the hardest hitters he had ever seen and now Thomas is learning behind two of the best in the business in Ryan Clark and Troy Polamalu.

Steelers Second Half

What direction are the Steelers headed in the second half of the season? Ed Bouchette of the PPG spoke with Steelers guard Ramon Foster about that subject. His response was probably surprising for some members of Steeler Nation.

"“A playoff berth is still within reach, that’s first and foremost.” – Ramon Foster"

Playoffs?! You can laugh all you want but the man is right. The Steelers haven’t been eliminated from anything, they haven’t finished anything. There are still games to be won and while it’s still possible to achieve those goals they’d be foolish not to work towards them.

Foote’s absence has affected defense

The Steelers got bit with the injury bug early on this season. And while this particular injury bug was quite severe seeing as how it didn’t just temporarily injure players but actually sent them to the IR, the Steelers have always been dealing with injuries one way or another each season. As the Trib’s Dejan Kovacevic points out that while most people will attribute the loss of Maurkice Pouncey on the offensive line as the biggest blow to the team, the loss of Larry Foote on defense has set a ripple effect to all the parts of the team. From Lawrence Timmons to Steve McLendon to Troy Polamalu, each member of the defense has had to adjust and compensate for the loss of Foote on the field. Perhaps the impact of the loss of Foote for this season has been underestimated so far.
