With the workweek barely just begun there is still time to bask in the glory that is a Steelers victory and be thankful that it’s not another frustrating loss we’re still managing to digest again. While they didn’t turn the season completely around with just one victory, you can’t start a comeback without that first win. You can enjoy the victory and be hopeful for more or continue to be negative and complain about the problems the team has had, convince yourself that you know more than the coaching staff and front office, and never enjoy a moment of the Steelers season. The beauty part is that no matter what the consensus is on Twitter, you’re the boss of your own fandom. Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block.
Steelers defense accepted the challenge
The loss to New England had to be demoralizing for the Steelers defense. Not only was the whopping on the field brutal, but the question of effort and the question of ability for DC Dick LeBeau heated up following the loss. According to Steelers Teresa Varley, the defense took that as a challenge for their game against Buffalo.
"“It felt like we were challenged. There was a lot of talk about the Patriots game, there were people questioning Coach LeBeau. We just wanted to go out there and put those questions to rest. It’s the love and pride we have for this game and organization. We want to play solid and great football any time we get the opportunity to.” – Vince Williams"
Ben not quitting on the Steelers
Unless you’ve been unconscious for the past two days, you’ve heard about the report coming out before the game on Sunday speculating the possibility Ben Roethlisberger would ask for a trade this offseason. The Trib’s Dejan Kovacevic explains how false that report is. The best thing he points out was that in the report on NFL.com, Rapoport doesn’t ever list Roethlisberger, his agent, or anyone in the Steelers organization directly contributing to anything noted in the story. That right there, along with the immediate denials by all parties, tells you that he never confirmed any of it with any of those guys. While it’s a bit of a stretch to say that someone in Rapoport’s position would actually completely fabricate a story, it’s easy to see how he didn’t really confirm anything or have to, in order for it to get attention. Kovacevic points out that not only did Roethlisberger vehemently deny the story following the game; it’s plain to see his commitment to the team based on the words of his teammates.
Steelers vs. Buffalo Report Card
The PPG’s Gerry Dulac gave out his grades for the Steelers performance in their win over Buffalo. Ben Roethlisberger was given a “B”. Seems as though Ben can’t help but throw a bad interception from time to time but what he also does is shake those off fairly quickly to rebound. The running backs got a “B-“for combining for 136 rushing yards between Bell, Dwyer, and Emmanuel Sanders on a 25-yard gain from the wild-cat formation. The offensive line got a “C+” for the running game’s success, but also for allowing 4 sacks for Ben, bringing his season total to 35 so far. The defense overall got high marks with the secondary getting an “A” from the contributions of William Gay and Ryan Clark. The team gets an overall “B” for their third win of the season.
