Today it was announced that Steelers quarterback has been named the AFC offensive player of the month, according to Steelers PR man Burt Lauten. Over the course of November, Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for 1,188 yards for 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. His passer rating during this time has been 100.5, leading his team to a 3-1 record.

Why is this such a big deal? After the month of September, Roethlisberger’s statistics were: 1,231 yards for 5 touchdowns with 5 interceptions. On top of all this, he also had 5 fumbles. Being named the AFC offensive player of the month shows how far this franchise has come since their 0-4 start.

In addition, Troy Polamalu was named defensive player of the week for the 7th time in his career after the game against the Browns last Sunday. Polamalu had 4 tackles and one sack, but his biggest impact came in the form of his two forced fumbles, and his one fumble recovery. On top of all this, Troy Polamalu also dropped an interception.

If the Steelers are going to make a playoff run, they will need Roethlisberger and Polamalu to continue to play at this level, starting Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens.
