Mike Tomlin Fined $100K For Sideline Dance, Forfeiture of Draft Picks on the Horizon?

Well “Steeler Nation,” it looks like Mike Tomlin is much lighter in the wallet now. According to ESPN.com, Pittsburgh’s head coach was fined $100,000 earlier today for his tap-dance on the sidelines during Pittsburgh’s most recent game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Make no mistake, I am all for Tomlin being fined for what he did on the field. It was a moronic action and he deserved to either pay out of his pocket or pay with a suspension. He obstructed Jacoby Jones on his kickoff return, and he deserved the same type of punishment which the NFL handed down on the Jets after Sal Alosi’s tripping episode back in 2010.

While I totally agree with the hefty fine sent Tomlin’s way, the ESPN.com article mentioned that the league’s brass are considering the forfeiture of draft picks as an add-on to Pittsburgh’s punishment.

Readers, please enlighten me: How does taking draft picks equate to a just punishment for Tomlin’s ridiculous act?

As I stated before, the punishment of a fine (or even a one or two-game suspension) makes sense for what Pittsburgh’s head coach did last Thursday. Of course, concepts like “logic” and “consistency” have seemed to escape those in the NFL offices over the last half decade or so. Thus, the notion that the league’s brass are considering taking away draft choices doesn’t shock me at all.
