Report: Steelers Re-Sign Kion Wilson to Practice Squad

Pittsburgh Steelers’ brass shook up their linebacker corps yesterday when they placed LaMarr Woodley on the Reserve/Injured List. With Woodley shelved, the Steelers’ front office filled his spot on their 53-man roster with free agent outside linebacker Jamaal Westerman.

Westerman however was not the only linebacker Pittsburgh’s front office managed to acquire. In fact, the team reportedly re-signed inside linebacker Kion Wilson back to their practice squad according to the team’s communications coordinator Burt Lauten:

Wilson, who was released for the second time by the Steelers this year, was actually cut by the franchise on Saturday. The release of Wilson allowed the Steelers to promote defensive end Brian Arnfelt from the practice squad to help with emergency depth in the defensive trenches. With the empty spot still available, Pittsburgh’s brass apparently saw it fit to bring back the player who started two games for them in place of Larry Foote earlier this season.

Unfortunately for Wilson, he was passed up on the depth chart for playing time by Vince Williams and Stevenson Sylvester by mid-season. Worst of all for the veteran linebacker, it has been rookie Terence Garvin who has emerged as a special teams standout and sub-package contributor during recent weeks.

Whether or not the team plans to promote Wilson to the 53-man roster will be something to follow closely. Yet one has to believe that Wilson would only be promoted and play if Williams, Sylvester or Garvin is sidelined at some point during the regular season’s final two weeks.
