Steelers Targeting Ray Brown for Vacant OL Coaching Position

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for an offensive line coach now that Jack Bicknell, Jr. was made the franchise’s scapegoat earlier this week.

According to Jason Cole of the the National Football Post, Pittsburgh’s brass already have someone reportedly on their radars to fill the vacant coaching position in the form of Ray Brown of the Carolina Panthers.

Brown would be a solid choice for Pittsburgh to target in my opinion. Not only did he enjoy an extended and successful career as a player at the professional level (20 seasons and 205 starts as a guard), Brown has been the offensive line coach for one of the most successful rushing offenses in the entire league over the last three seasons.

The Panthers ranked 3rd, 9th and 11th in rushing during Brown’s three seasons as the team’s offensive line coach, and his presence, experience (OL Coach with the Buffalo Bills: 2008-2009, San Francisco 49ers: 2010) and expertise could be huge pluses for the Steelers’ talented yet young offensive line.

Although the Panthers will not allow Brown to formally interview with any team until their postseason run is finished according to Cole, the fact that they will reportedly let their offensive line coach talk to the Steelers is a positive sign.
