According Scott Brown of, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed safety Jordan Dangerfield and wide receiver Jasper Collins to Reserve/Future contracts earlier this afternoon.

Like fellow Reserve/Future signee Miguel Maysonet, Dangerfield started his collegiate career at Hofstra University. Sadly, both players had to transfer after their freshman seasons since the school ended its football program four years ago.

Dangerfield (5’11” 199 lbs.) chose to transfer to Towson University after his freshman campaign, and the safety earned the team’s defensive MVP award during his junior and senior campaigns (162 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries).

Dangerfield signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills last April, and was with the team until he was released after the final week of preseason play.

Collins (5’10” 190 lbs.) is the fourth wide receiver Pittsburgh’s brass have inked to a a Reserve/Future contract during the last month. The former Mount Union Purple Raider enjoyed a terrific senior campaign in 2012 when he racked up 92 catches, 1,694 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns for the Division III National Champions.

Collins signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins after he went undrafted last April. Unfortunately for the wide receiver, he was injured before the preseason began and was subsequently released by the team in July. To his credit, Collins caught on with the Cleveland Browns and spent most of the season on their practice squad.

Obviously looking to create competition on the back-end of their depth chart, the Steelers coaching staff is hoping that Collins, Justin Brown, Kashif Moore and Lanear Sampson will be able to push each other during the spring and summer.
