Steelers season goes all year long so whether we’re looking ahead to the start of free agency, predicting the possible draft choices, or looking around for mentions of your Black & Gold we’ve got you covered. Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block.

Shear Da Beard

Pittsburgh’s favorite facial hair is gone again as DE Brett Keisel held his 4th annual Mountain Man Makeover. All proceeds from his event benefit cancer programs at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Brett was shaved by fan favorites James Harrison, Aaron Smith and Dick LeBeau. Here are some highlights of the event.

Alan Faneca: marathon man

Speaking of former Steelers, has everyone seen what former Steelers guard Alan Faneca is up to lately? Well, the story actually is what he’s down to and that’s down over a hundred pounds. Faneca just ran his first marathon over the weekend. He finished the New Orleans Rock & Roll Marathon in less than four hours. That’s impressive. A marathon is just over 26 miles. I don’t even like driving anywhere that’s 26 miles away. Faneca was asked to compare his new role as a marathon runner to his previous one as an NFL lineman.

"“A lot of people ask me, do I miss football? I don’t miss football but what I do miss is that first beer after a game. I had the same feeling after the race.” – Alan Faneca"

Stained Curtain

Columnist Joe Starkey took some shots at the Steelers defense in his recent column for the Trib. He points out that today would be the third anniversary of the death of the Steelers defense. Three years ago today the Steelers defense allowed Aaron Rodgers to pick them apart on his way to winning the Super Bowl XLV MVP in the Packers defeat over the Steelers. Starkey notes that the team has not won a playoff game since. There is one main point in which I agree with Starkey in his summation of the problems facing the defense and their causes. He states that the team, and most of us fans (I know I’m guilty of this one) stayed in denial about the unit’s decline and touted their No. 1 ranking in some stats while ignoring the glaring problems. We all scoffed at Warren Sapp for calling the defense “old, slow and over” but didn’t take the time to identify any of the truth in that statement, however douchey it was.

What are your thoughts, Steeler Nation? Do you enjoy the annual “Shear Da Beard” event Brett Keisel puts on? What do you think of Alan Faneca’s new look? Do you agree with Joe Starkey’s assessment of the Steelers defense?
