Who ride? We ride! Steeler Nation would love to welcome back Joey “Peezy” Porter to the Black & Gold! The Steelers announced today that Porter will join the team as an assistant defensive coach for the upcoming season.

Porter will be entering his 14th season with the NFL, his first as a coach. He was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 1999 NFL draft. He spent 8 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before the team released him in 2007. He then went on to spend three seasons with the Miami Dolphins and 2 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before coming back to Pittsburgh in the summer of 2012 to officially retire a Pittsburgh Steeler.

Over his career Porter registered 98 sacks, 721 tackles (552 solo), 25 forced fumbles, 12 interceptions, 9 fumble recoveries, 3 touchdowns and one safety. He ranks 5th in Pittsburgh Steelers franchise history with 60 sacks. He was selected to four Pro Bowls and named All-Pro four times. He was also a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s.

Porter joins former defensive back Carnell Lake on the Steelers defensive coaching staff as coaches who were former players for the team. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was excited to welcome Porter back into the fold.

"“We are excited about having Joey back with the Steelers family. Joey spent a number of years with Pittsburgh as a player, and now he’s back to assist the coaching staff. We look forward to his efforts and contributions.” – Mike Tomlin"
