What we learned this week in the NFL:

  • The 49ers think Jim Harbaugh is a jerk just like we do
  • Aaron Hernandez gets into prison fight; sent to isolation
  • Richie Incognito goes crazy on his Ferrari and then check himself into a hospital
  • NFL Network finally fires Darren Sharper after he surrenders on rape charges
  • Pitt’s Aaron Donald’s draft stock shot up after Combine
  • Steelers HOF’er Stallworth honored

We’re about to enter into March Madness in the NFL. Teams have a little over a week to be compliant with the salary cap and try to nail down their in-house free agents before they can test the market. Should be a busy week in the offseason for NFL fans.

Steeler Nation will never consider themselves Harbaugh fans. He throws full-blown tantrums on the sidelines and is generally just an unlikeable guy as far as we’re concerned. Apparently, members in the 49ers locker room agree. While they’re clearly ok with averaging 12 wins a season since he took over, the rumors of the possible trade with Cleveland have gained some legs since reports circled that Harbaugh’s “act has worn thin” around the locker room. Give them a couple more losses next season and this story is about to get a whole lot more interesting and entertaining.

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is finding it difficult to stay out of trouble this offseason, even in prison. While he’s awaiting trial on murder and gun charges it seems as though Hernandez is taking the cliché prison-movie approach to serving his time and had a fight with another prisoner. Since then he’s been moved to isolation as to protect him from the other inmates. Or the other way around.

Former Dolphins offensive lineman and all around disgusting guy, according to Ted Wells’ report, Richie Incognito went ape-shit on his own Ferrari last week and then checked himself into a hospital for emotional counseling. This guy’s actions read like the basic definition of borderline personality disorder. Here’s hoping someone can help him. He’s eligible to sign with another team come March 11th but it’s not likely any team is looking to take on a project of this magnitude. Seems like he could use the help of some doctors as opposed to another NFL locker room anyway.

The NFL Network has fired former NFL safety Darren Sharper after he was arrested in Los Angeles for raping two women. He is also under investigation for sexual assaults in Florida, Nevada and Arizona. The network had suspended him without pay on January 18th but Sharper’s own personal Law & Order SVU episode just seems to be getting worse and worse. Looks like Sharper’s MO is to drug women at bars or parties and then take them back to his hotel room where he assaults them. This is an example to show how sexual assaults and rape aren’t about sex at all. I’m sure being a former NFL player and analyst on the NFL Network allows him to meet several women who would willingly get down, but this disgusting piece of crap needs to take it by force to feel more like a man.

Former Pitt star defensive lineman Aaron Donald came away from last week’s NFL Scouting Combine with a much improved draft stock. He ran a 4.68 40-yard dash and did 35 reps on the bench press to impress scouts across the league. The former Penn Hills High School standout had a damn fine impressive showing at the Senior Bowl as well and is now projected to be taken in the first round of the NFL draft. I wonder if he’d like to stay in Pittsburgh?

Last week it was Joe Greene and this week another member of the 70s Super Steelers was honored. John Stallworth was inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame. Stallworth was drafted by the Steelers in 1974 out of Alabama A&M. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Congratulations Stallworth!
