Taking Stock of Steelers first week of free agency

Ed Bouchette wrote a blog for the PPG on Monday reviewing the Steelers’ moves for the first week of free agency. To sum up the moves the Steelers certainly lost more players than they’ve re-signed so far. They’ve released Larry Foote, LaMarr Woodley but retained Jason Worilds. In the free agency market they’ve lost Emmanuel Sanders, Ziggy Hood, Al Woods, Jonathan Dwyer, and David Johnson, none who should have come as a surprise. And none, according to Bouchette, should really be that big of a loss to the team. The biggest loss so far can be argued as Al Woods but when it comes down to it he was a depth player for the defensive line who would have tried to be a starter, Cam Thomas can certainly fill that role instead. Bouchette points out that the one player whom the Steelers shouldn’t lose is Jerricho Cotchery, which we’ve expressed the same sentiments here as well.

Lance More to visit Steelers

Perhaps in preparation for the possibility of losing Jerricho Cotchery, the Steelers have planned to invite former New Orleans Saints WR Lance Moore to the South Side, according to Kevin Patra of Around the League on NFL.com. Moore was cut by the Saints after he followed up his outstanding 2012 with a mediocre and injury-plagued 2013. With a wide receiving corps that right now looks like Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton and Derek Moye I’d say we sweet talk Cotchery instead of letting him fly to Carolina. Who’s with me?
