After the initial jump in activity at the beginning of free agency, the dust has settled. Here are some articles to get you through the day Steelers fans.
Status Report: Defense
Bob Labriola has come out with another series on Steelers.com that is updating the state of the Steelers’ roster as of now. Labriola previewed the defense position by position to give a breakdown of the roster. Free agency is far from over, but it can never hurt to have a current state of the roster. Labriola gives the current players on the roster, the players that have been added, the players that have been lost, and any UFA’s that haven’t been resigned. He then discusses if there is a need at the position and what could be done to improve the position. This is another very informative article from Labriola, and I would recommend it to any Steelers fan who likes to stay informed.
Steelers Meeting With MJD
Scott Brown of ESPN reported yesterday that the Steelers were visiting with Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew would be a perfect backup to Bell, as long as he comes at a reasonable price. Just imagine Bell being split out and still having a back like MJD to hand the ball of to. Downright scary. At the beginning of the offseason, MJD wasn’t even on the mind of Steelers fans because his price was perceived to be too high. It seems as though that may no longer be the case. Although he could definitely still get a lucrative contract as a starter with a running back needy team, it seems as though him signing with a team where he will share time is more likely. He could very well fall into the Steelers’ price range the longer he is on the market.
