Steelers season goes all year long so whether we’re breaking down free agency signings, predicting the possible draft choices, or looking around for mentions of your Black & Gold we’ve got you covered. Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block.

RB Reinforcement

If you haven’t heard already, the Steelers made quite possibly their best offseason acquisition this week when they signed running back LeGarrette Blount to a 2-year deal. Bob Labriola of Steelers Digest explains that Blount’s running style is a speed-power combination and definitely not one found on the Steelers roster before. Blount was brought in to be the No. 2 back, obviously behind Le’Veon Bell, but he can provide a change of pace and share the workload in the backfield. With the way the Steelers running game has been the past few years, Steeler Nation can’t help but be excited about this signing. Bonus is he’s got some pretty good nicknames already in “Blount Force Trauma” and “The Winnebago”.

Value signing with Blount

Obviously, the Blount signing gets all the attention for the time being. ESPN’s Scott Brown breaks down the value that Blount’s signing has, from the money standpoint. Remember how the Steelers were entering the offseason in salary cap hell? The Steelers signed Blount with a scooch under $1 million remaining under the salary cap without restructuring anyone else first. They’ve had a methodical approach to free agency, with adding depth and experience in some spots and youth in others. I’m not sure if they were trying to prove a point by making all these signings without doing things like extending Ben Roethlisberger’s contract or restructuring Lawrence Timmons but give credit where credit is due, they had a hell of a tight cap situation when this thing all started and while I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if they weren’t done with the Blount signing, they’ve managed pretty damn well so far. Brown put it pretty well here.

"“Remember, this is the organization that was supposedly in the salary cap equivalent of Leavenworth only a month ago. The Steelers have since put on another clinic in managing the cap, as they have shed salary without compromising the core of the team.” – Scott Brown"
