The NFL late on Thursday released the offseason workout schedules for every team.  The Pittsburgh Steelers have three OTA’s scheduled and a mandatory minicamp to follow.  Those workouts will take place at the Steelers South Side facilities.  There are three phases of the offseason workouts and is laid out by the latest CBA.

The first couple weeks of the workouts are limited to strength and condition.  The next three weeks of the program will begin on-field workouts.  The workouts may include individual player instruction and drills and then team practices that are conducted separately.  However, in this second phase there can be no live contact or any offense vs defense drills.  The last four weeks of the program allows teams to conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice.  There is still no live contact permitted.  7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are allowed.

Here are the Steelers’ workout dates:

Pittsburgh Steelers

First Day: April 22.
OTA Offseason Workouts: May 27-29, June 3-5, June 9-12.
Mandatory Minicamp: June 17-19

Phase One and Phase Two of the workouts will take place from April 22nd through the end of May.  At that time, Phase Three begins in the form of OTA’s.  Across those four weeks, the team will partake in three OTA sessions and then a minicamp.  Those four weeks will be very important for the Steelers.  We’ll begin to get an idea how conditioning went for numerous players.  The team will also be allowed to dump LaMarr Woodley and hopefully swing some more deals prior to training camp proper – many in Steeler Nation are hoping for the Ben Roethlisberger extension.
