While it seems like the rest of the NFL is ready to implode with run in after run in with the law this offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been keeping themselves out of trouble. That doesn’t mean that they are completely out of reach from the long arm.
On Thursday, WPXI’s Alan Jenning’s tweeted that Kevin Colbert received a subpoena from the defense attorneys representing the suspects indicted in the Mike Adams stabbing last summer.
(Must be pretty serious based on the use of exclamations by Jennings. Oy)
If you’ll remember, the young offensive tackle was stabbed after a few guys decided it would be cool to try and steal the big man’s vehicle after he exited a restaurant on the South Side of Pittsburgh. The incident was briefly scary for Steeler Nation, and Adams required surgery to repair damage from the lacerations resulting from the attack. Adams was forced to sit out all of the workouts during the summer. His season was rocky at left tackle, and – unfortunately for him – many didn’t seem to rethink on that attack as a possible reason why he struggled most of the season.
The stabbing suspects’ attorneys are requesting the Steelers’ personnel records on Adams. No doubt they are trying to find anything that will make him ‘look bad’ in a court of law. Why that has anything to do with what happened that night is beyond me – Adams was still stabbed, whether he somehow escalated things to incite the group of men into attacking him or not.
Well let’s hope this is the only incident the entirety of the Steelers organization has with any part of the criminal justice system. And hopefully, Colbert can get back to worrying about the upcoming draft and not a bunch of d-bags bent on making one his players look bad.
