Steelers Morning Huddle 4/18/14

While it should have been an uneventful week for the Pittsburgh Steelers, there is one thing that stood out among all others, and among the entire NFL. Here’s your latest Steelers news.

Kevin Colbert Subpoenaed

Neal Coolong of Behind the Steel Curtain reports that Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert has been subpoenaed in regards to the Mike Adams stabbing case that happened last summer. This is definitely something that doesn’t happen often, but there have been several reports that the attorney of the accused is looking to the background of Mike Adams for leverage in his case. That I cannot confirm, however. Keep an eye on the whole situation, because this does not happen very often. This is not Steeler like at all, and Im sure Kevin Colbert will do whatever to defend his player, but isn’t happy about being in the spotlight.

Steelers sign Podlesh

Dave Bryan of Steelers Depot reports that the Steelers have signed punter Adam Podlesh. This is a move that was expected to happen at some point this offseason, the Steelers signing a veteran punter to compete with Brad Wing. Usually, the Steelers have 2 punters, kickers, and long snappers in camp every year just to compete with the starters. However, the last couple seasons we have not known who will come out a winner in the punting situation. Shaun Suisham and Greg Warren have been constants with the team since they arrived, but the same cannot be said about the punting situation. I believe Podlesh is last years Brian Moorman, just a veteran showing a young punter the ins and outs of the position. The Steelers found out the hard way by bringing in veteran punters last season with the failed attempts of Zoltan Mesko and Mat McBriar. The Steelers should have stuck with Drew Butler, and now with another young punter who has tremendous potential, they need to stick with him.
