Pittsburgh Steelers Rookie Minicamp: Day 1

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially opened rookie minicamp on Friday. It’s the first step the rookies get to get on the field in front of the coaching staff. It’s also a big chance for the undrafted rookie free agents as well as the tryouts.
The Steelers have signed 14 first-year players and also invited 20 undrafted rookies for tryouts. You might remember some of the names from last year’s draft and the practice squad. They’ll all get a chance to make the 90-man roster again. According to the Steelers website, below is the roster for the Steelers 2014 rookie minicamp.

*TRYOUT
One of the players the coaches most wanted to see out on the field was sixth round pick NT Daniel McCullers, who apparently showed on the first day that he can run, for a big guy. That’s exactly what the coaches wanted to see.
"“Show that I can run to the ball, that I do have speed and that I will use it. Run to the ball. That’s what they’ve wanted me to do from the moment they brought me here.” – Daniel McCullers"
While it is technically the first day on the job for the recent draft picks, they’re still trying to make a good first impression even with all the information they’re receiving.
"“The information is flying at you. You just learned a little bit of it not too long ago and now you are going out there trying to digest it and play. It’s kind of fast, but it’s going to help us.” – Ryan Shazier"
The rookies will have through Sunday to work out for the coaches before breaking until May 27th for the first OTA with the rest of the team.
