Will Pittsburgh Steelers Javis Jones Be A ‘Barn Boss’ In 2014?

Pittsburgh Steelers OLB Jarvis Jones had a less than completely desirable rookie campaign during the 2013 season.  It took quite some time for Jones to settle into the defense, but who could really blame him for that when he was carousel’ed in and out for a large portion of the first half of the season.  Jones, did become more comfortable and with that he became more disruptive against the offense.  But, only one sack all season has left Steeler Nation a bit disappointed with the season as a whole, and many doubt his ability to be a top notch pass rusher.

Steelers linebacker coach, Keith Butler feels differently about Jones this season.  In fact, Butler thinks Jones is just one Western showdown J. Peezy style away from becoming the kind of linebacker Butler wants on his squad.

"Jarvis is a little bit different than Joey (Porter) but not much.  Joey’s always had that kind of ‘barn boss’ attitude when he’s played, and we need some of that.  I’ve already told them all the story about him going out to the bus and trying to pull Ray (Lewis) off the bus.  I want somebody like that.  I want that type of attitude in that room and he brings it."

Wow.  I never really thought of Jones being that ‘close’ to being a Joey Porter – the guy who racked up at least 9 sacks or more four out of his eight seasons with the Steelers (who later then put up 17.5 sacks while a Dolphin).  But, Butler puts it out there.  Coincidentally, Porter only put up two sacks his first season in a Steeler uniform.  Then again, Porter wasn’t a first round pick and saddled with the task of being the next greatest linebacker.

Porter was loud and nasty and used that to his advantage on the field.  Not only did Porter have the loudest voice in that locker room, he was a leader too.  Can Jones be that leader?  Can Jones have that ‘barn boss’ attitude that Porter has had since we all can remember?

So let’s here it.
