Steelers Morning Huddle 6/25/2014

Steelers season goes all year long so whether we’re previewing training camp, predicting roster moves, or looking around for mentions of your Black & Gold we’ve got you covered. Here’s what’s being said about your Pittsburgh Steelers around the block.

WR could be strength?

Crazier things have happened. Apparently ESPN’s Scott Brown has been bombarded with questions as to whether or not the Steelers would consider bringing back Santonio Holmes to add to their wide receiving corps. What Brown says is the reason why the Steelers aren’t considering the idea at all might surprise you. He says they just don’t need him with all the depth they have at that position from what was shown throughout the offseason workouts so far. Of course, everyone does look good in shorts but it is noteworthy that Darrius Heyward-Bey, the former 7th pick overall in the NFL Draft is not a lock to make this roster given that Moore, Wheaton, Justin Brown, and Martavis Bryant are all pushing each other and Heyward-Bey was reportedly inconsistent so far in workouts. The wide receiver group continues to be one of the position groups most watched as the team will head into camp next month.

More from Steelers News

More play-action, action

According to the PPG’s Ray Fittipaldo, the Steelers offense is looking to incorporate more play-action into the offense this season. Naturally, that’s a lot easier said than done. Many things have to fall into place successfully for a team to use play-action more and the main thing is the running game. With a better running game, an increase to play-action is sure to follow. I, for one, would like to see more flea-flickers, mostly because I like to say “flea flicker”.

Ben on Todd

Ben Roethlisberger stopped by the “Cook and Poni Show” on 93.7 The Fan earlier this week during his charity celebrity golf tournament that benefits his organization which provides K-9 officers to local police departments, and police departments in the cities where the Steelers travel. Naturally, Ben was asked about his relationship with Steelers OC Todd Haley because, of course he was.

"“There was an obvious growing period. You develop a relationship. I enjoy working with him. I think we have a good relationship now. You see it on the field and you will continue to see that when we get out there because my play will be better and the play-calling will really be better.” – Ben Roethlisberger"
