Exp. 8yrs.. Guy Whimper. 78. player. 55. The depth chart doesn’t really get any better at the tackle position after Adams.  Guy Whimper was picked up last season from the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Whimper took snaps at various points in the season over the course of 11 games and started two of them in 2013 – rarely seen enough that our image libraries don’t even have a picture of him in a Steelers uniform!  The now 31 year old is the senior on the line, and he has certainly hit his ceiling.  The expectation from Whimper is to be able to fill in for some series here and there over the course of the season.  Not game.  Season.  His time needs to be limited, otherwise the Steelers will face the same problems at left tackle as they did when Mike Adams played there over the last two seasons.  Whimper is a little better, but his footwork is just as slow as Adams’, and, as we’ve seen what the Steelers have done this offseason, defenses are getting faster and faster.  I quipped last year when the Steelers acquired Whimper that Big Ben might be doing that some whimpering of his own should Guy be the one left to protect his blind side.  This is Whimper’s final year of his two year deal from last season.  Who knows, maybe he can learn and improve on a thing or two under Munchak and get one more year from the Steelers.  Depending on the draft prospects for next season, the Steelers might just need him..
