Hollywood East
Jason Cato from the Trib reports that a new big-budget movie is set to film in Pittsburgh starring Will Smith. The movie is centered on former Steelers center Mike Webster and his life after football titled, “Game Brain.” It is based on a 2009 GQ article on how the NFL previously attempted to discredit former Allegheny County forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu and his discovery of the link between football-related head injuries and dementia. Smith will play Dr. Omalu.
Position Preview: WR
Scott Brown of ESPN continues his series on the position groups heading into training camp. He now focuses on the wide receiving corps. Clearly the one of the most intriguing position groups heading into camp as it’s still a mystery as to who will step up to play opposite Antonio Brown and if the Steelers did enough to make up for the loss of Jerricho Cotchery and Emmanuel Sanders. Steelers OC Todd Haley thinks that 2014 will be a breakout year for 2nd year receivers Markus Wheaton and Justin Brown.
"“You can see a different level of confidence in the way they carry themselves. They are no longer rookies. They are no longer looking around at who to follow. They are coming out here and leading their group. I think that comes from hard work. They didn’t get noticed during the season last year when they were on the practice squad or not getting a ton of reps in games, but everybody out here can see that they were working hard and were continuing to make plays and get better.” – Todd Haley"
Steelers 2014 Preview
Fox Sports’ Brian Hall previewed what’s to come for the Steelers in 2014. One item I found funny was that he listed RB LaRod Stephens-Howling as a “key departure” for the team. Not sure if he checked the stats or anything but I had only 19 fewer rushing yards than LaRod Stephens-Howling did for the Steelers in his career. This is to say that he wasn’t exactly a “key member” of the team to have his departure be noteworthy at all. Anyway, his main questions for the team involve who will be playing opposite of Antonio Brown, which is obviously a big question among many in Steeler Nation. Also are the youngsters ready to take over the Steelers defense? And how will the Steelers utilize Dri Archer? He includes Alex Marvez’s 2014 season prediction for the Steelers to be 9-7.
