Two Pittsburgh Steelers Fantasy Football Sleepers
Now that training camps have begun all over the NFL and with fantasy football drafts are rapidly approaching, I am in a giving mood. So here are two deep sleepers that both play on your very own Pittsburgh Steelers that you should scoop up in the late rounds of your draft. The two players I’m about to name are the definition of deep sleepers. NFL.com “experts” don’t have either player even listed in the top 80 at their own position. Personally, I think if these two guys can stay healthy and maybe if an injury happens ahead of them on the depth chart, you will be very glad you have them on your roster.
The first player you should select is Dri Archer. Two days ago Todd Haley said Archer’s running style reminds him of a lighter Jamaal Charles. I don’t mind that comparison one bit. Now I’m not saying draft Dri Archer to be your starting running back, that probably won’t work out too well for you. What I am saying though is that Archer could have the potential to have a few huge weeks in his rookie season. He most likely won’t get an absurd amount of touches per game but with his speed, it might only take one touch to accumulate 80+ yards and a touchdown. Archer could also benefit from the potential injury ahead of him. Le’Veon Bell missed three games last year and is already having some hamstring issues. If those issues linger or turn into another injury that forces him to miss a game here or there, Archer then becomes the number two back behind LeGarrette Blount. He might be a great option to start a week for you if he is guaranteed ten or more touches.
The second Steelers sleeper you should either draft or pick up as a free agent, is wide receiver Justin Brown. I’ve written about him twice over the past month or so because he has been making positive strides according to nearly everybody in the Steelers offense. Anyways, Justin Brown might have a break out season for the Steelers. Last year only five guys caught more than 40 balls for the offense. Two of those guys, Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery, are no longer wearing Black and Gold. The logical question is who makes up for the 113 total receptions that left? Lance Moore appears to be a lock at slot receiver but he has only caught over 70 balls once in his career and that was in 2008. Markus Wheaton is the front-runner for the number two wide out spot. Last year however he missed time due to a hand injury. The other receiver that could stunt the growth of Justin Brown would be rookie Martavis Bryant. Last year as a rookie, Wheaton only caught six balls so maybe it’s not easy for a rookie wide out to step in and produce in the Todd Haley system. That’s a lot of IF’s for young Mr. Brown to actually put up some good numbers this year but there is a chance. Like I said before he has earned praise from Big Ben, Mike Tomlin, and Todd Haley for his improved professionalism and route running. With the wide receiving depth still in flux, keep your eye on Justin Brown.
There you have it Steelers Nation. Do you think these two could be fantasy sleepers or is my fantasy football season destined for failure?
