Tuitt gets first-team reps
Mike Prisuta explains how the Steelers integrated first-round draft pick Ryan Shazier onto the first team rather quickly in OTAs and he’s been there ever since. Now, second-round pick Stephon Tuitt is getting his chance to practice with the first defensive team with Tomlin giving Steve McLendon some rest. Cam Thomas took McClendon’s spot at NT to allow Tuitt some reps at defensive end. The rookie was excited to get a chance to work with the starters.
"“They hit me with it just as I came onto the field on Saturday. They’re just throwing different things at me to see if I can overcome things. I was focused at that time. But after I got off the practice field and called my mom I think I was in other places.” – Stephon Tuitt"
Mike Mitchell off the PUP
ESPN’s Scott Brown says that the Steelers have activated safety Mike Mitchell off of the physically unable to perform list and returns to practice Monday afternoon. The anticipation to see Mitchell work with Troy Polamalu has been high since Polamalu wasn’t at the voluntary offseason workouts over the spring. Mitchell was signed as the Steelers first unrestricted free agent signing to be essentially the newer, younger Ryan Clark.
Pressure on Wheaton
with second-year receiver
after Sunday’s practice, after the initial depth chart had been released to reveal he’s slotted to start opposite
. Kovacevic thinks, and I certainly agree with him, that there is a ton of pressure on Wheaton to perform well not just in camp and preseason, but also when the games start to count for real. The sophomore receiver who had a disappointing rookie season marred by a nagging broken finger injury is expected to replace
in the offense while many expect that Antonio Brown is going to draw a ton of double teams. Wheaton has so far turned in an impressive camp but isn’t taking anything for granted, including the depth chart, at this point.
