Mitchell makes immediate impact

Steelers safety Mike Mitchell was activated this week off of the PUP list and already his teammates are stoked to have him out on the field. According to Mike Prisuta, not only his teammates but also Steelers secondary coach Carnell Lake already likes what they’re seeing out of Mitchell.

"“We expect him to come in and make plays and be a strong tackler, and he’s living up to that. For the time he’s missed he looked sharp on Monday. He got a little tired towards the end of practice so we decided to give him a rest, make sure he didn’t have any setbacks. But I like what I saw today.” – Carnell Lake"

Big Ben under pressure

ESPN’s Scott Brown takes an opportunity to tout Ben Roethlisberger’s impressive skills under pressure, asserting that he doesn’t “quite get his due as an elite quarterback from a national perspective,” especially when it comes to how well he performs under pressure. Currently, Roethlisberger leads all quarterbacks with a 51.8 completion percentage, 1,837 passing yards, and 18 passing TDs when throwing under pressure or after getting hit. Naturally, the idea at this point is to reduce the amount of times Ben gets hit from now on, as has been the goal for a few years now, but it’s always good to remember just how good he is when the protection breaks down.

Kaboly: Tomlin is camp MVP

Trib reporter Mark Kaboly thinks that Mike Tomlin has been the “phenom” of Steelers training camp so far. Kaboly has been in Latrobe covering the team every day since they checked in on July 25th and notices that this has been the most physical camp he can remember of recent years since the new CBA has been enacted that limits a whole lot of contact in camp. He explains that although the camp has been intense and physical, he’s seen Tomlin be smart about giving certain guys breaks and limiting the contact for players like Troy Polamalu, Ben Roethlisberger, and Heath Miller to protect against injury. In Kaboly’s words he’s “taking care of the players who matter while pushing the younger guys to the brink to see how they react.” Here’s hoping that this method makes for a more successful regular season.
