Pittsburgh Steelers Sign Keisel and Gilbert

The Beard is back. After turning down a meeting with “Pittsburgh West”, Brett Keisel and the Steelers agreed on a deal to bring back the defensive end for a 13th season.

While the theme of this offseason surely has been to get younger on defense, it appears the Steelers just couldn’t let Keisel sign with another team and brought him back to presumably back up Cam Thomas and Stephon Tuitt on the left side of the defensive line as well as Cameron Heyward on the right side. It will be interesting to see exactly where he’s going to fit into the rotation and how much playing time the soon-to-be 36 year old will get.

The Steelers also did some contract work on their offensive line on Tuesday. The team locked up offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert through the 2019 season with a deal reportedly worth about $30 million. Marcus Gilbert was a second-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and has started all but one regular season game with the Steelers. Gilbert was excited to cement his career with the Black & Gold.

"“It means I am locked in hopefully as a Steeler for the rest of my career. It’s a blessing to work for a great organization, the Rooney family, Kevin Colbert and Coach Mike Tomlin. Just to be around in Pittsburgh, where they show you so much love, I couldn’t be happier and in a better place.” – Marcus Gilbert"
