7 Reasons To Look Forward To The Steelers Season

Despite the Steelers embarrassing performance on the field last night, there are still reasons to look forward to the team’s season in 2014. Here are the 7 biggest reasons for you to look forward to the Steelers in 2014.

1. Big Ben to AB

This duo is among the best quarterback to wide receiver tandems in the league. This year could be a second straight season where they combine for 1300+ yards and 8+ TDs. That combination is no sneezing matter. These two could very well carry the offense in Pittsburgh this year.

2. The LeBackfield (When They Aren’t Suspended)

A few weeks ago the members of Steelers Nation who weren’t hugely optimistic with the possibilities of the running game were few and far between. Then Wednesday happened. Now the confidence has quickly diminished. There is still little question that Bell and Blount will be a dynamic duo when on the field, but it has to be wondered how much they will be on the field. Getting back to the positive, Bell is a fantastic feature back and Blount is one of the best backups in the league. These two will be hard to handle when they hit the field

3. Budding Young Linebackers

Jason Worilds, Jarvis Jones, Ryan Shazier, Sean Spence, and Vince Williams. All five of these players have a few things in common. They all play linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they’re all coming into their own this year. For some it’s different than others, though. Worilds finally emerged last year after years as a back-up. Jones seems to be improved after he struggled in his rookie season. Shazier has already caught on, even if he is just a rookie. Spence has returned from a devastating injury to stun the league with how good he’s played. Williams played good last season when called upon and this year he has had the dedication to leave little doubt he can do better this year.

4. The Best O-Line in Years

It’s no secret, the offensive line has been bad in recent years. Wait, no, bad is being to nice. Try… horrid. This year, though, that all comes to an end. There is no weak link among the starters like there has been in the past. The tackles may not be great, but they are solid starters. The interior is where it all comes together, though. Ramon Foster-Maurkice Pouncey-David DeCastro. There are few better threesomes in the league. These five guys are the reason that the offense should have little trouble moving the ball this year.

5. Weak Division Competition

The AFC North is usually one of the toughest divisions in the NFL year-in and year-out. This year it seems to have taken a step back and is looking eerily similar to the NFL East. 9-7 could very easily win the division this year. The Browns are still the Browns, so don’t expect much from them. The Ravens defense is still good, but their offense doesn’t look like it has what it takes. The Bengals had by far the worst offseason of any team in the NFL. I wouldn’t be surprised if they drop under .500 and miss the playoffs. That leaves the Steelers. The one team that obviously improved on their 8-8 self. A 9+ win season and a division title seems within their grasp.

6. Football

It’s the only thing that gets me and countless others through the grind of school and work in the fall and winter. It gives you a reason to get up every morning until that glorious Thursday night. The time that football starts for the next 4 days (minus Friday). There are few feelings as good as waking up on that first Sunday of the season and knowing that NFL football is back for real. Not to mention it being the greatest game in the world. Sorry soccer fans, we’re talking real football here.

7. 65,000 Terrible Towels Waving

I can speak from first hand experience that there is nothing in the world like standing in the Heinz Field stands. Fourth quarter, sun setting, Renegade blasting, 64,999 members of a nation all waving a yellow towel in unison and screaming at the top of their lungs. Vince Williams knows what I’m talking about. He tweeted this back in June, “But how could that compare to standing on the 20 yard line 4th quarter 3rd down in the snow w Renegade blasting through Heinz #Chills”. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Chills is exactly right. I look forward to that moment this year when I can be a part of that 65,000.
