The Steelers released two of their 2014 draft picks Rob Blanchflower (7th round) and Shaquille Richardson (5th round), neither of whom made any kind of impact in camp or preseason due to injuries. Howard Jones showed some impact in preseason making “splash plays” and scoring off of turnovers. A surprise release is Guy Whimper, who played last season for the Steelers on a one-year deal and then re-signed another one-year deal this March.
Obviously Landry Jones remains on the roster as the Steelers 3rd string quarterback. Looks like the team isn’t willing to go without three quarterbacks and would rather keep Jones than picking up the third guy off of waivers.
Remember the Steelers can sign up to 10 of these players, if they are eligible, to the practice squad starting tomorrow.
