Troy’s not changing
Troy Polamalu isn’t taking his new position as team captain lightly. Teresa Varley caught up with the safety about how he feels about being voted a team captain for the first time in his career.
"“It’s a tremendous honor, but I’m not going to change who I am from day-to-day. The best captains are people who prepare the best they can to play well on the football field. That has always been my focus and I don’t think it’s going to change. There have been some amazing captains that I’ve played for…Joey (Porter), Hines (Ward), Jerome (Bettis), Brett (Keisel) and Aaron Smith. There have been a lot of guys that have never been voted captain who were really captains and leaders in the locker room. It’s best to represent the team when you are walking out for the coin toss at the Super Bowl. Those are the best captains that have graced this locker room.” – Troy Polamalu"
Jarvis Jones under pressure
ESPN’s Scott Brown explains how where there may be a lot of expectations for rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier to come out of the gates running for the regular season, the pressure to improve lies on second-year linebacker Jarvis Jones. Jones had a lackluster rookie season, registering only one sack on 612 snaps so he’s going to be expected to improve. Not only is Jones going to be expected to improve, the entire defense needs him to improve in order for them to be successful. The secondary is the obvious weakness on the defense so it’s on Jones to be the one putting the pressure on the quarterback to keep the secondary from being exposed. It’s a tall task but one that Jones hopefully can handle.
